Professional Quality, Built-in: Canon Full-photolithography Inkjet Nozzle Engineering (FINE) features a patented print head that enables printing with microscopic droplets and high resolution up to 4800 x 2400 dpi.4
True Monochrome Prints: The 3 monochrome inks which are part of the 8-ink ChromaLife 100+ system3 consist of Black, Gray, and Light Gray. These inks deliver enhanced, deep black density to raise your level of professional print quality when creating the dramatic expression of grayscale photography.
Optimum Analysis and Mixture of Color: The Optimum Image Generating (OIG) System utilizes two major technologies that were first introduced in the PIXMA PRO-1. The first is a sophisticated mixing balance of inks determined from numerous ink combinations and advanced analysis. During this analysis, the OIG System carefully calculates the best results for each print mode and paper type used while looking at various image factors including color reproduction, tonal gradations, black density, low graininess, glossiness, anti-bronzing and anti-metamerism. These critical ink balancing principles are derived from Canon's expertise in imaging technology, as well as the familiar colors of life that people see and remember on a daily basis. The second is the balancing of color reproduction, tonal gradations, and uniform glossiness. The genius and power of the OIG System is truly showcased when your image is printed, exhibited, and is seen exactly as you envisioned it.
Pro Printing: The powerful Print Studio Pro plug-in software2 provides professional photographers effective printing solutions and can directly hand-over image data. Print Studio Pro is compatible with Digital Photo Professional (ver 2.1 or later), Adobe® Photoshop® CS, Adobe® Photoshop Elements®, and Adobe® Photoshop® Lightroom®.
Versatile Paper Handling: Two-way paper feeding provides a rear tray for most supported media types and a dedicated manual feed in the back of the printer for easy loading of thicker papers.
Built-in CD and DVD Printing: Conveniently print onto your printable CD, DVD or Blu-ray Discs and jackets.
Built-in Wi-Fi: The built-in Wi-Fi1 gives you the freedom to place the printer where it's convenient and allows multiple users to seamlessly print from several computers.
Built-in Ethernet Connectivity: The built-in Ethernet port allows multiple users to seamlessly print from several networked computers in any environment.
Computer-free Printing: A PictBridge connection lets you print photos directly from your compatible digital camera, DV camcorder, or camera phone.
Hi-Speed USB: Plug the cable into your PC for a super-fast connection for your data transfers.
AirPrint: Enables you to print photos, email, Web pages and documents from your Apple device directly to your printer - without installing a driver.5
Solid Photo Printer
I've often wanted a large format photo printer. The Pro-100 which promises good B&W with great color printing and wireless connectivity sealed the deal.
The output is first rate. The photographs pop from the paper. Setup required (for me) a USB connection before the printer and wireless router would see each other, but after that five minute diversion ... Nirvana.
Prints, given the cost of ink, aren't be cheap, but they're spectacular.

With some 10 years-plus experience using ink jet photo printers, I was reluctant to use a dye-based printer, and with printmaking experience using two competitor's products -a 24" wide format from one maker and a 13" version from another top name, I was accustomed to pigment inksets. However, both printers failed on me after a relatively short time, so I decided to make my new printer a Canon, and with the improvements in dye inks, I decided to go with the Canon Pixma Pro 100. Starting with a great price, my experience thus far has been good, including the set up and initial printings. I did have some hiccups to sort through with my wi-fi setup, and with printing from my photo-editing software. Part of my problems had to do with files from a new "full frame" camera, so I don't simply assign blame to the Canon printer. Thus far the prints I've made are beautiful, with vivid color, and I really like the sense of quality of manufacture of the printer itself. I have yet to try to make prints on cotton rag, but I suspect I'll be happy enough. With output using the finest print setting, I'm still quite satisfied with the speed of printing. As for the software issue, I can't name names but my workaround is based on allowing Canon's included software plug-in to do the job. I do have to use it with the older version of my software, while using the newer software to edit my RAW image files, but it's not a deal breaker. It would be nice if Canon could find a way to resolve software plug-in compatibility issues, but at least things work - and the prints are sooo nice. One other issue with Canon's included software is a bit of intrusiveness from the "image garden" program, but it's not as bad as experiences I've had with software from the other two manufacturers' products. All things considered, I feel like I made the right decision in buying the Canon Pixma Pro 100.

I am a photography student. It is a real pain to try to share the printers at school. The Pro 100 make my life alot easier. This is a really good printer and I hope I don't need another for a long time.
By the way I got it really cheep too.

The results are spectacular, especially using QImage. Upgrading from a 9000 MK II.
Setup was a snap. Contrary to a previous review, setting a fixed IP address took a minute or two.
The only negative I have is that it doesn't directly support all of the papers of the 9000. And I have a lot of that sitting around! I've been able to get around some of this with 3rd-party ICC profiles.
