LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y., October 11, 2011 – Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging, today announced the CR-2 PLUS Digital Non-Mydriatic Retinal camera has received 510(k) clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)1. The CR-2 PLUS Digital Non-Mydriatic Retinal Camera joins Canon's current line of total digital imaging devices and workflow management solutions for ophthalmic professionals. The CR-2 PLUS retinal camera is available for purchase through authorized Canon dealers.
"The recent FDA clearance of the CR-2 PLUS Digital Non-Mydriatic Retinal Camera brings Canon one step closer to improving eye exam efficiency and eventually leading to the early prevention and treatment of vision threatening diseases," said Tsuneo Imai, senior director and general manager, Medical Systems Division, Canon U.S.A.
The CR-2 PLUS offers Fundus Auto Fluorescence (FAF) Photography in a non-mydriatic mode, that monitors macular waste materials and delivers both red-free and cobalt digital filters that are useful in evaluating the vascular and nerve fiber layers. Specifically adapted to capture detailed diagnostic images of the retina, the CR-2 PLUS also features dedicated EOS camera technology with 8 megapixels2. The unit also offers low-flash intensity minimizing pupil constriction, while shortening the time required for taking multiple pictures. The CR-2 PLUS also utilizes Canon's Retinal Imaging Control Software (RICS), which allows images to be captured, processed and sent to a permanent storage database as DICOM®3 or JPEG files, or printed through Canon imagePRESS product equipment.
