SAN FRANCISCO, October 24, 2009 – At the American Academy of Ophthalmology's (AAO) Annual Meeting, Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in medical imaging, will shine the spotlight on the latest addition to its complete line of total digital imaging and workflow management solutions for eyecare professionals, the CX-1 Mydriatic/Non-Mydriatic Hybrid Digital Retinal Camera1, in the North Hall, booth #3048 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco (October 24th - 27th).
The CX-1 is the Company's first fully hybrid digital retinal camera with both mydriatic and non-mydriatic modes. With one-touch, the operator can automatically switch between mydriatic and non-mydriatic modes, effortlessly utilizing different functions within seconds and performing several concurrent ocular tests.
"Canon continues to provide ophthalmologists with the latest digital imaging technology, allowing eyecare professionals to continue to provide comprehensive, high-end care to their patients," said Tsuneo Imai, senior director and general manager, Medical Systems Division, Canon U.S.A." At AAO, ophthalmologists will witness how the CX-1 Mydriatic/Non-Mydriatic Hybrid Digital Retinal Camera can play a significant role in helping them to efficiently operate their practices."
The Canon CX-1 allows the user to take one-shot FAF (Fundus Autofluorescence) photography, in a standard configuration, for both mydriatic and non-mydriatic modes. Detecting Autofluorescence of the retina is an important indication of the retina's health. Using the non-mydriatic mode not only saves time and resources, it also can make the diagnostic procedure more comfortable for the patient.
Canon's EOS camera technology, with its renowned image processing capabilities, has been adapted exclusively for medical use in the CX-1, providing up to 15.1-megapixel resolution. The CX-1 is capable of delivering clear and detailed diagnostic images for virtually immediate review. The single onboard digital camera handles five different photography modes with ease, including FAF, Color, Red-Free, Cobalt and Fluorescein Angiography photography.
The Retinal Imaging Control Software that comes with the CX-1 puts tools for image capture controls and easy viewing at a users fingertips. The intuitive graphical interface is simple and straightforward to use. The DICOM-compliant network interface allows easy integration with existing medical imaging systems and connection to PACS and HIS network configurations.
Also on display, Canon will demonstrate the synergy between the Company's retinal camera systems and Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) products from OPTOPOL Technology S.A. OPTOPOL Technology S.A. SPOCT High Resolution2 (HR) provides ultra-high resolution which can help give the doctor more comfort in diagnosis. Optical Coherence Tomography ultra-high scanning speeds shorten data collecting times and help to improve comfort of examination for patient and operator. The SPOCTHR has three micron axial resolution which, when combined with advanced analysis algorithm, makes SPOCTHR state-of-the art in SPOCT technology. Also showcased will be the OPTOPOL Technology S.A. SPOCT, which allows for non-invasive cross sectional imaging of the retina, while providing true, fast, 3D-imaging. The automated perimeter PTS 10003 from OPTOPOL Technology S.A will also be featured. The PTS 1000 is a diagnostic instrument that offers precise and fast testing of the field of vision. It features a wide range of strategies and analysis tools combined with intuitive interface, providing retinal specialists with a powerful diagnostic tool.
