The Auto Power Switch option is one of the many reasons Canon's high speed document scanners are energy-conscious solutions. With this option, the products are automatically turned ON/OFF in accordance with the power ON/OFF state of the computer.
The low power requirements of these scanners allow some of them to be powered solely through a USB cable. The elimination of the external power source also reduces the amount of materials needed during production. Though many document scanners require low levels of power and minimal set-up, speed and document imaging output is not sacrificed in the process.
Using LEDs as a light source, our image sensor allows for less energy consumption and shorter warm up times when compared to fluorescent (CCFL) lamps.

Most of Canon's imageFORMULA scanners meet ENERGY STAR® Program guidelines. Qualified products are 25% more efficient than conventional models. By using less energy these products reduce greenhouse gas emissions and save energy as well as money. ENERGY STAR products automatically enter low-power mode when not in use.
Canon document scanners are RoHS compliant and have restricted the use of hazardous materials. RoHS is a directive from the European Union that restricts the use of hazardous materials found in electronic products. Our products contain no cadmium, mercury, lead, hexavalent chromium, Polybrom Biphenyls (PBB), and Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers (PBDE).
